Laser Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal is done predominantly with pico lasers. It should be performed by doctors only.
The energy from the pico laser is absorbed by the tattoo pigments and shatters it into smaller particles. The body is able to break down and remove these smaller particles, resulting in gradual lightening of the tattoo after each laser session.
Multiple sessions are needed for complete tattoo removal. Not all pigments are able to shattered in one setting due to the natural skin reaction to the laser - redness and swelling of the area distorts the anatomy and reduces the effectiveness of repeated laser over the same area.
Our Approach
At White Aesthetics, we customise a treatment plan for each individual based on the size, colour and location of the tattoo. Other factors, such as age of the tattoo and your skin colour can also affect how your skin responds to each session. You may need multiple sessions and a combination of different lasers for effective removal of your tattoo.
Lasers producing wavelengths of 1064nm are useful for treating black, brown and dark blue pigmentation. These are the most common pigments used in tattoos. These are the same lasers that would be useful for treating skin pigmentation such as melasma and age spots.
The 'green laser' 532nm, treats red, tan, orange and purple pigments. It also treats blood vessels. The 'yellow laser' producing a wavelength of 585nm is useful in treating light pigments.
The Fotona patented FracTat® Tattoo Removal procedure involves a two-step laser process.
The procedure combines fractional ablative laser with the tattoo removal pico laser. The fractional micro holes relieve pressure and act as ducts through which gasses can escape after each pico laser pass. Deeper pigments can be treated in the same setting to reduce the overall number of sessions needed to treat the tattoo.

What to Expect?
The area is cleansed and topical numbing applied.
During the laser procedure, a cooler device helps minimise pain, discomfort and swelling.
After the procedure you will expect to have redness and swelling around the treated area for 7 to 10 days.
Each session should be 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow the skin to fully heal before the next treatment.

Aftercare
Avoid prolonged sun exposure for 7 to 10 days and apply sunblock to any sun exposed areas.
Keep the area clean and moisturised.
Avoid skin products that can cause irritation such as products containing alcohol and/or chemical peels as well as physical scrubs.
You will be provided with topical medication to apply over the treated area, and other oral medications to aid the healing process if needed.
